Welcome |
St Johns College Jaffna (SJC), founded in 1823, is among the oldest and most distinguished of the modern secondary schools in South Asia. The Old Boys Association (OBA) of SJC was established in 1904 and has been active ever since. In addition to the OBA in Jaffna, there is a south Sri Lanka OBA based in Colombo, and several other OBA based overseas in the various to which large number of past pupils (Old Johnians) have migrated. All OBAs function autonomously but under the patronage of the schools principal and in close coordination with the schools and with each other.
The multiple objectives of these OBAs include enabling Old Johnians, individually and collectively, to connect with their alma mater in diverse ways, and to develop and maintain social interaction with fellow Old Johnians. In this way the OBAs have helped to sustain SJC through many difficult years; to reconstruct and upgrade school buildings destroyed in the course of the civil war; to improve the school library; to provide equipment and skills to introduce modern information technology in to the school curriculum; to help a few needy students through; and to recognize and encourage the dedication of members of the staff and the achievements of the present and past pupils. In turn, many Old Johnians have gained much satisfaction and rewards from participation in such ventures and from membership in such a lively and predictive global network. It is for this reason that our social functions invariably attract very large number of Old Johnians, their families and guests, including several from distant lands.
Every Old Johnian who is not already an OBA member is invited to join. To do so, he may communicate with the secretary or any other office bearer of the South Sri Lanka OBA as per contact details attached. Members of the OBA ( South Sri Lanka) shall, in addition to the other benefits, get on to the mailing list of our Newsletter.
